In case you’re new to PLEIN AIR, we are all about supporting women who want to be chic in the outdoors. Whether that means confidently owning their place in technical apparel, helping alleviate problems that pop up in any of those activities or spaces, or simply looking good in nature, we’ve got it all!
Many of the outdoors brands we love and champion are founded by women. Below are some of our favorites across style, tech, home, food & beverage, and more.
AMASS
Vancouver-based AMASS makes clean botanical-inspired products for the modern age. Founder (and distiller) Morgan McLauchlan grew up in the mountains (our fave) and utilizes her passion for plants to create modern, social rituals in the form of spirits, both alcoholic and non. The brand also uses candles, soaps, hand sanitizers, and more.
PLEIN AIR PICK: HARD SELTZER VARIETY PACK, $55.
Anecdote Candles
Anecdote Candles is popular for its nostalgic, quirky storytelling blurbs embossed on each candle. Anecdotes, amiright? And they each smell so good…
PLEIN AIR PICK: APRÈS SKI CANDLE, $34.
Anna Jean Kos
I’m all about supporting Hawai’i based designers, and I’m a bit biased when it comes to Anna Jean Kos. New Zealand raised but Oahu-based, her one-woman-studio creates the dreamiest linen sets along with simple, gorgeous bikinis. Because everything is custom made, it’s all sustainable (using deadstock fabrics only) and can be inclusive of any body size or shape.
PLEIN AIR PICK: BRISA DRESS IN CAROB, $180.
Away
Away’s been a modern classic of a luggage brand. I own one, and you probably do too. A built-in charger, 360-degree rotating wheels, and limited lifetime warranty (like—a friend recently broke her zipper by overstuffing the suitcase and had it fixed free of charge) make it especially helpful for your next vacay.
PLEIN AIR PICK: THE CARRY-ON, $275.
Beyond Yoga
We all swoon over this comfortable, stylish activewear brand. Founder Jodi Guber Brufsky left the entertainment industry (which she found draining) to become a yoga instructor, reclaiming her image of her body. Wear the line for yoga, hiking, and even as base layers for snow sports.
PLEIN AIR PICK: BRAVE THE ELEMENTS SHERPA BOMBER, $169.
Caliwater
I hate how much I love this cactus water because it’s a little pricey, but Vanessa Hudgens made a phenomenal beverage when she dreamed up Caliwater. Prickly pear cactus fruit has powerful electrolytes so it’s super hydrating for your skin and your body. I generally reach for a can after a day in the sun or a tough workout. Flavors also include ginger lime, watermelon, and more.
PLEIN AIR PICK: WILD PRICKLY PEAR 12-PACK, $32.99.
Curie
Curie was founded as an aluminum-free deodorant option for active women, who couldn’t afford to wear natural blends that wouldn’t be effective. Since 2018, Curie’s clean deodorant and personal care products have gotten a large following—and even have a collaboration with Equinox gyms that smells like their refreshing eucalyptus towels. (City girls, I’m looking at you!)
PLEIN AIR PICK: CURIE X EQUINOX JUNIPER SPRAY DEODORANT, $14.
Equilibria
I use CBD brand Equilibria to sleep at night, and it’s generally the CBD brand I hear the most about. The brand utilizes dosage specialists in its women-focused offerings to ensure your formula—melts, gummies, drops, you name it—works most efficiently for you.
PLEIN AIR PICK: RAPID SLEEP MELTS, $45.
HABIT
HABIT’s been my go-to facial sunscreen because its SPF mister—which can go over makeup, btw—is so easy to use. I’m horrible at remembering sunscreen everyday, despite having lived in Florida and Hawai’i, because I’ll forget to put it on indoors or in “less risky” scenarios. It’s also tiny, which means it’s easy to cart around or throw in your bag.
PLEIN AIR PICK: NO.41 SPRAY MISTER, $30.
Halfdays
Need we say more? If you’ve been following PLEIN AIR, you know we love female-founded ski brand Halfdays. Their designs are technical, gorgeous, bright, fun, and founders Karelle Golda, Ariana Ferwerda, and Kiley McGinnon have single-handedly done so much to get women outside and on the slopes, no matter their skill level. Join their Slack channel for meet-ups, community, friendships, and more.
PLEIN AIR PICK: ASTON JACKET, $425.
Kilte Collection
Kilte Collection makes my favorite washable cashmere set—the only washable cashmere set I know of. I wore it nonstop during après last year and am literally wearing my joggers now. Its specific knitting pattern and sizing lets you wash and dry it, and it’s still just as soft over a year later. Founder Hannah Hale Redfern specifically created her knitwear brand for moms, and each woman on the all-female team is allowed immense flexibility in order to care for their children, so we love supporting a company that stands for strong values. Plus, they cute.
PLEIN AIR PICK: THE LAUREN JOGGER, $295.
Kin Euphorics
I drank Kin Euphorics nonstop when I had a sober year from 2019 to 2020. Back then (soooo long ago), there wasn’t much in the way of dry bevs on the market, and I also loved that I got a little pleasant buzz—hard to describe, but I noticed as an introvert that I was much more social and bubbly thanks to the adaptogens, botanics, and nootropics involved. Jen Batchelor started the brand, but you may recognize it from Bella Hadid signing on as a co-founder. I personally find the High Rhode gives you more bang for your buck than the Spritz cans, but I enjoy them both.
PLEIN AIR PICK: HIGH RHODE, $39.
Lunya
I cannot shut up about Lunya’s luxurious boucle knit—a blend of cashmere and silk that truly makes me want to cry, it feels so good. I love wearing this set, but it almost scares me because it’s so high quality and decadent. Needless to say, I plan on wearing this set throughout the ski season.
PLEIN AIR PICK: SILK BOUCLE WIDE LEG PANT, $498.
Nomadica
You may have seen this chic canned wine brand at several après ski spots. Sommelier Kristin Olszewski launched Nomadica for accessible, delicious, and all-natural wines in the convenience of a (gorgeous) can. Bonus points for including playlists and custom artwork for each blend.
PLEIN AIR PICK: ADVENTURE PACK, $78.
Nori
Raleigh-based steam iron brand Nori has been featured on every influencer’s favorite things guide ever. But—it works. They recently released a sweater shaver that will keep your knits and linens in tip-top condition for the ski season.
PLEIN AIR PICK: THE NORI TRIM, $59.
